Ulm’s downtown features a multifaceted urban structure where historic and contemporary architecture stand side by side. With its monumental Gothic design, Ulm Minster dominates the central cityscape, while townhouses, the historic town hall, and newer buildings illustrate the city’s various phases of development. The Fishermen’s and Tanners’ Quarter, with its half-timbered houses, narrow alleys, and buildings along the Blau River, has a particularly intimate feel.
